Beechworth Wine Estates is a family owned boutique vineyard located at Baarmutha 4km from the beautiful historical town of Beechworth. The Beechworth region is renowned for producing rich and complex chardonnays – think of Giaconda, Savaterre, Fighting Gully, et al. The Beechworth Wine Estates Chardonnay is not out of place in this company but comes at a fraction of the price.

"This is a totally delicious wine, proving again just how good this region is for chardonnay. Powerful, long and creamy brimming with an ensemble of stone fruits, grapefruit, almonds and smoky bacon. I had this with friends over dinner with the 2021 Fighting Gully Road Chardonnay, and of the two, this was perhaps the more complex and beguiling. High praise indeed! The essence of Beechworth chardonnay, beautifully captured. For the price, I can't recommend it highly enough."  Nick Munday

"Hand picked, whole-bunch pressed and fermented in 500L French oak (30% new). Matured on lees for 10 months. Boasts a bright, medium straw hue with a green tinge. Unites the grape's citrusy energy with some creamy, leesy textural characters. Grapefruit, lemon drop, nectarine and mango skin aromas. There's an energy here, brought to the drinker via tangy, juicy acidity and bright fruits. It's a great drinking combination. Drink by 2026."  Jeni Port, Halliday Wine Companion – 92 points

"Freshness is key to this year’s release. There’s a steely, nectarine-like aspect to the palate and finish here though there’s also a creaminess, an almond note, a touch of smoky reduction and indeed flashes of cedar wood. All this is built on a base of stone fruit, yellow and white. This is a solid release. A touch oaky perhaps but the fruit is good. Drink: 2022 - 2026."  Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front - 90 points

Wine region map of Victoria

Victoria

Victoria is home to more than 800 wineries across 21 wine regions. The regions are Alpine Valley, Beechworth, Bendigo, Geelong, Gippsland, Glenrowan, Goulburn Valley, Grampians, Heathcote, Henty, King Valley, Macedon Ranges, Mornington Peninsula, Murray Darling, Pyrenees, Rutherglen, Strathbogie Ranges, Sunbury, Swan Hill, Upper Goulburn and Yarra Valley.

Victoria's first vines were planted at Yering in the Yarra Valley in 1838. By 1868 over 3,000 acres had been planted in Victoria, establishing Victoria as the premier wine State of the day. Today, the original vineyards planted at Best's Wines are among the oldest and rarest pre-phylloxera plantings in the world.

Victoria's climate varies from hot and dry in the north to cool in the south and each wine region specialises in different varietals. For example, Rutherglen in the north is famous for its opulent Muscats and Topaque and bold reds, while the many cooler climate regions near Melbourne produce world class Chardonnay and pinot Noir. Victoria is truly a wine lover's playground.
