"A confident poise to the aromatics, cedar and blueberries, grainy oak and briary, dried herbs. Excellent line to this. Just-ripe flesh wrapped around dusty tannins. Acidity in check. A very classy cabernet." Nick Butler
"A great example of a classic Margaret River Cabernet displaying aromas of black cherry and cassis, which lead to a palate of fine velvety tannins with generous fruit on entry these dark fruits are followed with dark chocolate, spice and oak complexity, the finish is soft long and satisfying.
2017 vintage in Margaret River has proven to be exceptional in fact It was simply perfect; cool crisp mornings and evenings with beautiful warm and sunny days; not too hot, textbook conditions for great ripening especially for the key Margaret River variety Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2017 vintage may well prove to be a classic Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon year, a year like 1994 with great flavours and mature tannin at lower alcohol levels.
Cabernet Sauvignon fruit was sourced from a Wilyabrup vineyard at the warmer, northern end of the Margaret River appellation. The harvested fruit was then sorted and crushed into open vats for a cool, extended ferment, which lasted up to 3 weeks. During this period each parcel of fruit was pumped over and hand plunged to extract colour, fine tannin and varietal complexity. The wine was then matured for 14 months in a range of French oak barriques before blending by barrel selection." Winery Notes

About the winery
Wise winery was established in 1992, when Biochemist Dr Ron Wise and his wife Sandra bought the then Geographe Bay Estate. The vineyard adjacent to winery comprises 2ha of cabernet sauvignon and shiraz, and 0.5ha of zinfandel.
The Margaret River Estate grapes are supplemented by contract-grown grapes from Margaret River, Pemberton, Manjimup and Frankland River. The wines offer extraordinary value for money.
Highly awarded winemaking consultant Larry Cherubino has been engaged since the late 2000s to direct viticultural, fruit sourcing and winemaking activities. Larry’s influence has been to drive the quality of the Wise wines to a level among the highest in the Margaret River region. Wise Winery has been awarded numerous gold medals at the major Australian wine shows. Noted wine critic James Halliday has rated Wise Wine as a 5 Star Winery, a testament to the quality and consistency of their wine-making.
The Wise property is home to one of Margaret River’s most renowned restaurants, the only one to overlook both the vines and the ocean. It is a truly iconic setting, surrounded by vineyard and the pristine natural bushland of Meelup Regional Park and looking out to the sublime blue waters of Geographe Bay.
Western Australia
Western Australia is home to more than 400 wineries across nine vast and extraordinary wine regions which are almost entirely concentrated in the south-west and great southern land divisions of the State. The regions are Blackwood Valley, Geographe, Great Southern, Peel, Pemberton, Manjimup, Margaret River and Swan District.
The oldest region is the Swan Valley, the best known both nationally and internationally is Margaret River and the largest is Great Southern. The Great Southern region is further divided into the five subregions of Albany, Denmark, Frankland River, Mount Barker and Porongurup.
The history of wine production in Western Australia dates back to 1840 with the establishment of Sandalford in the Swan Valley region. The recognition of the fine wine possibilities started to be realised after the establishment of the Margaret River Region in 1967, which has become renowned for its high quality Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The other regions produce a diverse range of regionally distinct wines, from stunning Rieslings and evocative Shiraz, to a range of unique Cabernet Sauvignon blends.
